Tattoo Story {Spiritual Name: Prabha}
Hi:
Here is the story behind the art work.
Starting from the top - the orange writing is my spiritual name, Prabha,
written in Sanskrit. When I got my yoga teacher certification my teacher
gave me the spiritual name which means morning light. I wanted to keep that name with me always so I added it to the tattoo. The 3 dragonflies signify beginning, middle and end; beginning of a two year change, middle of that change and end - that cycle has just kept going for me. They also signify body, breath and sole. The OM in the middle signifies how long I’ve been practicing yoga - it looks old and I’ve been practicing for 15 years now. The colours are very significant. The blue dragon fly at the top is for my older son, who is always above the crowd - with his name Maverick - he definitely lives up to everything we have hoped for him and then some. The red dragon fly is different for my other son. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome so he fly’s to his beat. He is wonderful but he is also different. The green dragon fly is for me. I’m on the bottom looking up to support my boys. The purple in the background represents my spirituality. It has come in handy over the years that I’m a spiritual person.
I hope you enjoy the story along with the picture.

several ways, has been said to mean “I honour the divinity within me”. When doing my research about it, the message seemed to resonate with me, but ultimately took on a greater significance by the time I actually got the work done. After losing my Aunt to MS in October, I found myself in a rather deep state of depression and this mantra helped me to recognize and cherish the many gifts I have to share and to be sure not to take them for granted, given the fleeting nature of life. The placement on my feet was intentional and had several inspirations - 1) acknowledging my past as a dancer 2) celebrating my recent foray into running 3) encouraging me to continue my practice and exploration of yoga, and the possibility of guiding others. Each time I engage in the experience of yoga, I have this wonderful visual to help set an intention for the practice. The choice of the colour green was meant to reflect vitality, energy and growth. I had initially intended to have the lettering filled in, but decided instead to give myself the opportunity to do so at a later date and instead enjoy the contrast between the outline and the flesh itself, making the tattoo feel like an organic part of my being.
day in Dec 2007. I was at the beginning of a separation from a 14 year relationship and I need to find strength and to remember who I was.
teacher training I felt I needed to wear my passion. The Om symbol style is a combination of Thai and Hindu Om. Yoga (and meditation) is to me a true form of divine healing that we all carry within us. I have dedicated to it completely and want to share yoga with everyone I come into contact with. The blue swirling behind the Om represents the color of the throat chakra. I’ve had a thyroid condition since I was a kid and have found that setting intention on my throat chakra has helped with balancing that condition. I’ve even had people tell me that my tattoo has been a focal point during our asana practice! That makes me happy.
provides a constant slow deliberate energy without the chaos, great in times of transition or change. Black onyx helps one to absorb from the universe, those energies which are needed. Centering ones energy enhances self-control and stimulates the powers of wise decision-making.
After my first tattoo which is the symbol for “OM” I was hooked. I knew that I wanted at least one more, the question was, what would it be? I decided on a yoga pose, as I have been practicing yoga for 8 years now I also wanted it to balance with my “OM” tattoo. I went on to the Chakravibe website one day just to see what Teresa was working on, and there she was, my next tattoo (I call her the chakravibe girl). She was everything I wanted, a yoga posture, with the chakras on her body. My next step was to decide where on my body I wanted her. So, I took a photocopy of her and placed her on different areas of my body. My right ankle was the winner. When the day came for me to get her, I was a bit nervous but I haven’t regretted getting my tattoo for one second.
My tattoo was a gift from my sister when I was 18, however I did not actually get my tattoo until I was 27. This tattoo came from many places, for example after seeing a car accident in Morocco, I became cognizant to the power of symbolism. In Morocco I saw a bus flip over because it had hit a donkey cart. I remember seeing a dismembered hand lying in the road and a torso unattached to its legs. The next day I had to take a 54 hour bus ride to London, England and the family I was working for gave me a “Hand of Fatima” necklace to protect me while I traveled. The Hand of Fatima is a religious symbol in the Muslim faith that brings good luck, abundance and patience. This is the infrastructure of my tattoo. Around the sides of the palm of the hand are the phases of the moon, stressing my connection to the feminine and the lunar calendar. Interspersed with the moons are musical symbols like you would find in a violin because I love music and its healing power. In the center of the palm is a lotus flower, the symbol of Buddhist wisdom, and a reminder of my life in China, Japan and South Korea. In the center of the lotus is an eye, it has no eye lid so it can never close, allowing it to always be open to any danger that could befall me (the eye is also part of the Hand of Fatima). In the ring and pointer finger is the world. You can see my home Canada, but also a realistic view of other parts of the world, where I have lived for almost ten years. Surrounding the world are 5 stars, as in numerology I am a 5. A traveler, an adventure seeker and a curious monkey! Finally in the center finger is the tree of life, representing the levels one must pass through to get from the physical world to the collective unconscious. As well, each level is colour coded to represent each of the chakra points.
