“Body & Soul”
Brenda Surminski is producing a play commissioned by Dove entitled “BODY & Soul” with the message that “beauty has no age limit”.
“Todays popular belief is that aging is something to be avoided at all cost and that becoming older and being invisible go hand in hand. We commissioned internationally acclaimed playwright Judith Thompson, whose name is synonymous with creating controversy, to create a provocative new play that challenges the way society thinks about beauty and aging. Our wish is that our play will spark a beautiful revolution by inciting dialogue and overturning the status quo”.
We have a cast of 12 real women with no previous acting experience courageously baring their souls on stage.
“BODY & Soul” opens May 10th to the 17th at the Young Center in Toronto

Persephone: Greek Goddess of spring a source of inspiration

Myth of Persephone
According to Greek mythology Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, goddess of the harvest.
Persephone was a beautiful young woman that everyone loved, even Hades, lord of the underworld, wanted her for himself. One day, when she was collecting flowers the earths’ plain suddenly opened and Hades rose up from the gap and abducted her. Only Zeus and Helios, the all-seeing sun, had noticed.
Demeter wandered the earth, looking for her daughter, until Helios revealed her fate. Broken-hearted Demeter withdrew herself in her loneliness, and the earths’ bounty ceased.
Zeus sent Hermes down to demand that Hades release Persephone. Hades reluctantly agreed, but before she went back he gave her a pomegranate. Eating it bound her to the underworld forever, staying there one-third of the year, and the other months with her mother. Henceforth when Persephone is with Hades, Demeter refuses to let anything grow and winter begins. Her return above ground brings renewal and the sprouting seeds of springtime. In Greek mythology she is the Queen of the Underworld, as well as the Maiden, symbol of rebirth Goddess of Spring.
Power of Myth
I have always been intrigued by myths, and stories that have been passed down over many generations. I believe that they have a special energy and power to them. They speak to us not only in words but also on a cellular level; you feel the story in your body, communicating in metaphor.
Persephone’s myth is a very powerful one that resonates within all of us in a very profound way. An innocent young maiden abducted by Hades lord of the underworld. She was reunited on earth by the determination of her loving mother Demeter. Persephones’ myth illuminates our lives with the torch of insight; the cycles of change, death and rebirth, transformation, healing our wounds, making choices and having the courage to forge ahead.
Musician, singer, songwriter
Well I guess I can start off by introducing myself and what I do. My name is Tyrone, age 21, and I am a full time musician in Windsor, Ontario, exploring my creativity with three other chaps in a band called “TIME”. Being the lead singer and guitarist of the group, I can find the physical requirements quite demanding sometimes, especially when it comes to singing all the right notes. I have been learning how to project the voice and how everything you do to your body affects the larynx in some uncanny way. With light of that information, naturally I went looking for better ways to enhance the larynx.
Since then I have changed my diet, my extreme social lifestyle and my sleeping habits.Sure enough, after much practice I started to see changes I really liked and started to realize that my whole way of life had started to dramatically change in a period of a few weeks. I was defining myself, finding out what my artist really enjoys and pursuing it. As things would have it, the universe spoke up and suggested something obvious that I really hadn’t thought about.
Yoga
Stretching your body means stretching your larynx and your fingers and every other part of this complex machine. I tried a beginner class and was hooked ever since. The clarity, relaxation and looseness I’ve been receiving after classes is amazing. You can literally feel your lungs receiving more air in every breath and you almost feel like Gumby when you’re finished. The focus on breathing (the most important part of yoga) is the most useful thing I’ve learned for singing in front of people. Everything starts with the breath and ends with the breath. These are things that have not been taught in public schools that I believe everybody should know about. How can you really know yourself if you don’t know your body and it’s limitations and tense areas? These blocks say a lot about your day to day life, it’s your body telling you where you are suffering and where to let go.
Chakravibe Warrior Necklace
I have been wearing a Chakravibe necklace for almost a year now and I am finding it to be very helpful with grounding and stability. Apart from the beauty of the thing, it assures me that everything happens for a reason and when clutching the stone pendant I receive a new understanding of where I am in life. It’s a constant reminder to me of the energies on this planet and of the trust I can put into the universe and the flow of synchronicity. Now that I think about it, since I’ve been wearing the first chakra, (the success of ) our band has flourished dramatically. Our goals are being achieved and we have a clear vision of the success in our future now. This Warrior necklace gives me courage and determination like I’ve never had before and I want to thank Chakravibe for the sacred stone I have been gifted to receive.
Thanks a million!

Chakravibe spotted at Montezuma Yoga
We love hearing from you, our Chakravibe fans. We’ve recently heard back from Christine who went to in Costa Rica with her teacher Christine Price Clark and here is what she had to say.
Dear Chakravibe,
Thanks again for the wonderful jewelry. I wore my Om Power Necklace to go to my yoga retreat and got nothing but compliments. I also got a lot of inquiries as to where one could be purchased and made sure to mention your website. Travel to Costa Rica from Vancouver was pretty strenuous and quite tiring, but I found that my years of yoga and wearing the Om necklace gave me more grounding, compassion and understanding. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for yoga jewelery.
