Having taught Yoga here in Markham, Ontario to students of all ages, I realized that Yoga has the most to offer students in my older adult classes, more than to any other age group. As the body and mind age, it turns out we need our Yoga practice more, even if we begin late in life and even if that practice is highly modified to suit an older body. Poor balance and memory, pain symptoms, arthritis, insomnia, depression, anxiety - to name a few - can, to a certain degree, be alleviated by a regular Yoga practice.

And so it was with great dismay that I discovered there are only a handful of places in North America that offer this specialized training. In 2008, after having completed these courses myself, I set about to create a teacher training of my own. It has been quite an inspiring journey to bring this important, timely work to the Yoga community. My courses are set up so that the whole training experience is very hands-on, with lots of group sharing and discussion. Thanks to the popularity of this course, in the Spring of 2010, I will be offering Part II (Therapeutic Yoga for Seniors Teacher Training). The emphasis here will be on modifying a Yoga practice for seniors who are physically challenged through limited mobility and/or illness.
